Dixson Island is a 16 km long, 8 km wide and up to 335 m high island in the D'Urville Sea off the East Antarctic George V coast . It is on the west side of the mouth of the Ninnis Glacier .
They were discovered by participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . Mawson named it after the Australian tobacco producer and philanthropist Hugh Dixson (1841-1926), a sponsor of his research trip .
