Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Jemez ( Russian Дми́трий Алекса́ндрович Емец , born March 27, 1974 in Moscow ) is a Russian author of children's and youth fantasy literature.

He is known for his Tanja Grotter series and its offshoots, which he sees as a parody or, alternatively, as "a kind of Russian answer" to Harry Potter. He was repeatedly threatened by JK Rowling that she would sue him; however, the books are still very popular and the first, The Magic Double Bass , has sold more than 100,000 times. Despite speculation about a film adaptation of his books, none have been carried out so far, probably due to legal reasons. However, a play based on the books was staged in bookstores for the release of Book 9. After the third book, Tanja Grotter broke away from the original and went from a parody to an independent book series.

The author of the Tanja Grotter series also wrote Methodius Buslaev , Filja Hitditch , Space pirate Krox and Mutants .

He once said, “The litigation story is not very pleasant to me. However, I think the fact that JK Rowling's attorneys sued me in court testifies to their weakness. I hope that Tanja Grotter is stronger than the court. "

However, a Dutch translation by Tanja Grotter and the Magical Double Bass was banned in 2003 after the author sued Rowling for copyright infringement, although the Russian publisher and Jemez had tried to declare the works a legal parody.

Jemez is married and has seven children.
