history
The Doak Campbell Stadium, named after the president of the university at the time of construction, opened on October 7, 1950 with a game against the Randolph-Macon College Yellowjackets. The Seminoles won the game 40-7. The stadium cost $ 250,000 to build and the original seating capacity was 15,000. In 1954 the audience capacity was expanded to 19,000 for the first time. In 1961 a further 6,000 seats were added. Over the years the stadium has been expanded several times due to the growing student body and in particular thanks to the sporting successes under coach Bobby Bowden , and in 2003 it reached its current capacity. On November 20, 2004, the field was named after Bobby Bowden Field .
