Dobri Voinikov
Dobri Popow Voinikow ( Bulgarian Добри Войников ; born November 10, 1833 in Shumen , † March 27, 1878 in Tarnowo ) was a Bulgarian writer and theater director .
Life
Woinikow attended the French college in Istanbul . He published textbooks and introduced both music and recitation into Bulgarian schools. He also founded the first student theater and orchestra in Bulgaria. In 1866 he founded the first Bulgarian theater group in Brăila , Romania , and participated in it until 1870. From 1870 to 1876 he performed plays with young people in Bucharest , Zurz and Shumen.
Woinikow wrote dramas and comedies and is considered the first Bulgarian director. A memorial was erected in his honor in Shumen.
