Doddington (ship)

The Doddington was a British East Indiaman .

She traveled from the Downs to Bombay and China in the years 1748-1749 . In the years 1752–54 she traveled to Bombay and Mocha . On April 22, 1755, she traveled from Dover to Fort St. George in India. On her way back from India she ran aground on July 17, 1755 at Doddington Rock in the Bird Island group of islands and sank. 247 people died, only 23 survived the accident. They lived on Bird Island , northeast of the rock, for seven months before the carpenter finished building a boat that allowed the group to leave the island.
