Bird Island (Algoa Bay)

Bird Island is an island in Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa . It is named for the Bird Island archipelago , which also includes the much smaller islands Seal Island and Stag Island . A lighthouse built in 1898 is located on the 19 hectare island. In 1755 the survivors of the Doddington stranded here . As depicted in Mark Minnie and Chris Steyn's book The Lost Boys of Bird Island , the island was a pedophile base in the 1980s .
