The Protestant village church Galenbeck is a Gothic hall church in Galenbeck in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the Schwichtenberg / Gehren parish in the Neustrelitz Propstei of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church).

History and architecture

The rectangular hall church made of field stone masonry of three bays with brushed cross rib vaults dates from the first half of the 14th century. The roof structure was renewed around 1743 (d) after a dendrochronological examination. Brick was used on the windows and panels. The west facade is accentuated by a stepped stone portal and a round window above it, the twin panels on the side and the staggered pointed arch panels in the gable are elaborately designed. Corresponding pairs of panels also frame the round-arched windows on the north and originally also on the south side; a large pointed arch window is arranged in the east.

The mighty octagonal tower, which is unusually arranged for the region, stands in the middle of the northern long side. It is built in front of the north portal with the alliance coat of arms of those of Rieben-von Münchow and shows two half-timbered upper floors with a curved hood above the basement with corner rustication .

In 1762 a square crypt extension with four groin vaults was built in front of a central column on the south side. In 1847 the gable pinnacles were added and the windows and tracery were partially renewed. In the years 1995–1997 the church was restored after severe damage to the roof with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection .

Furnishing

The uniform wooden furnishings date from the middle of the 18th century. It consists of a pulpit altar with a high column-flanked structure and enclosure, the closed pastors' and patronage stalls with a presented column structure as well as the box stalls and a swinging organ gallery.

The organ is a work by Ernst Sauer from around 1850 with five stops on a manual with attached pedal . It is not playable, almost all metal pipes and the pedal keyboard are missing.

A lectern was made in the 18th century, as was a silver-gilt goblet with a paten . A pair of pewter candlesticks dates from 1658. One bell was cast in 1410, another from 1722 was made by Michael Begun from Friedland. The von Rieben hereditary burial place is located in the cemetery.
