Silver gilding

Silver gilding refers to the gilding of silver objects. Strasbourg silver gilding was famous in the 19th century .

Gold was originally dissolved in mercury for silver gilding and then applied by means of fire treatment . A well-known silver-gold-plated thread is also the gold thread . This consists of a very fine gold thread or, since the late Middle Ages, it has usually been made of a silver-gilt thread that is wrapped around a yellow or white silk thread ( soul ).
