Hellmut Holthaus
Hellmut Holthaus (born October 11, 1909 in Remscheid ; † May 16, 1966 in Staufen im Breisgau ) was an editor in various magazines, writer and writer of humorous short stories and features articles.
Life
He began his career as a business editor in Wuppertal and then as a reporter in Remscheid. He later worked in Upper Silesia for a Beuthener newspaper and then in Glogau for a culture editor. Finally he moved to Berlin as a picture editor . During the Second World War he was stationed as a member of the Wehrmacht in Norway , then in Lithuania and East Prussia . Holthaus was taken prisoner of war several times: first by Soviet, American and finally British.
After the war, Holthaus settled in Staufen im Breisgau as a freelance writer. His books reached a total circulation of over 300,000 copies.
The Empire of Adolf Hitler compiled by Holthaus with Utz Utermann . A picture book of the development of Greater Germany 1933-1940 ( Rather , Munich 1940) was placed on the list of literature to be sorted out in the Soviet occupation zone after the end of the war .
