Sarah Dessen (born June 6, 1970 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American writer for young people who lives and teaches in Chapel Hill , North Carolina .

Life

She grew up in North Carolina, where her parents were professors at the University of North Carolina , which Dessen later attended. She studied English and Creative Writing as a side course. She completed her studies with a university degree in English. Today Dessen teaches creative writing at the University of North Carolina.

After college, Dessen started her job at the Flying Burrito Restaurant, despite her parents hoping for a down-to-earth job for her daughter. She worked at night and wrote her first novel during the day . That Summer was released in America three years later . Since then, her eight books have won many awards.

Her penultimate novel Just Listen , which was published in Germany in April 2008, reached number two in the New York Times Book Review in America after its publication in April 2006 . After that, Lock and Key appeared in the USA .

How to deal

Two of her novels, Someone Like You and Summer with You , formed the basis of How to Deal , a 2003 film starring Mandy Moore . The actions of the two books were mixed up and partially changed.
