Lahn thread designates a with Lahn (geplätteter metal wire or narrow strip of thin film) spirally wrapped textile yarn for the production of splendid textiles with shiny metallic surfaces.

The most famous representatives of the Lahn threads are Goldlahn , which is wrapped in gold , or Silberlahn , which is wrapped in silver . In the case of less noble materials such as gold-plated or silver-plated base metals (mostly gold-plated copper alloys), one speaks of Leonese goods . Due to its high value, Goldlahn was mainly used in the manufacture of liturgical and secular ceremonial clothing. More recently, there have been lahn threads that are wrapped with shiny metallic plastics .
