The landscape protection area FFH area Fürstenberger Wald with 1492.46  hectares is located in the urban area of Bad Wünnenberg in the Paderborn district . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 2007 by the district council with the landscape plan Büren-Wünnenberg. The LSG is located south and south-east of Fürstenberg. The LSG borders directly on the Hochsauerlandkreis and Marsberg . The Fürstenberger Wald has been part of the FFH area Bredelar, Stadtwald Marsberg and Fürstenberger Wald (DE 4518-305) since 2004 .

description

LSG encompasses the large, contiguous Fürstenberg Forest with a high proportion of species-rich, old and dead wood rich and heterogeneous beech forests. There are also numerous springs and near-natural streams with underwater vegetation and grassland communities that accompany the stream. In the grassland of the stream valleys there are wet grassland areas, tall herbaceous vegetation and sedges. In the forest there are also mixed oak forests, spruce forests, alder-ash forests and swamp forests.

The forest is the breeding and feeding habitat of the black stork.

To optimize it, the medium-term conversion of coniferous wood stocks into deciduous forests suitable for the location and the extensification of the agriculturally used areas should come about. As development and maintenance measures, the agriculturally used areas should be used as extensive meadows, hay meadows or pastures. Reforestation may only be carried out on precisely defined areas with deciduous trees appropriate to the location. The addition of coniferous wood, individually, in groups or in groups, to deciduous forest stands with a share of up to 20% in the grove-beech forests outside of spring areas and sieves is partially permitted. During the breeding season of the species black stork, black woodpecker, gray woodpecker, medium-sized woodpecker, rough-owl and red kite, disruptive measures in the vicinity of breeding sites are to be avoided: Bituminous paths should be removed, especially in the area of biotopes, sieves and wet areas protected according to § 62 LG.

For areas of the LSG, which are the private forest of Count von Westphalen , a contract for protection and conservation was concluded in 2001.

The landscape plan writes about the value of the LSG: "The deciduous forest area is of outstanding importance nationwide as an important networking element and refuge area due to its size and shape, due to the network of source brooks and natural flowing waters with their alluvial forests and the almost fully developed avifauna."
