Doina Petrescu

Doina Petrescu (* 1960 ) is a Romanian architect and researcher .

life and work

Petrescu grew up in Romania and studied architecture there. She then studied philosophy with Jacques Derrida at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. The Ph.D. for women's studies at the University of Paris VIII with Hélène Cixous .

Petrescu has taught at the Architectural Association School of Architecture , Iowa State University , the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Paris-Malaquais and the University of Architecture and Urban Planning Ion Mincu in Bucharest. Petrescu was visiting professor of urban design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design from 2014 to 2015 . She has been Professor of Architecture and Design Activism at the Sheffield School of Architecture since 2001 .

Doina Petrescu founded the Atelier d'Architecture Autogérée (AAA) together with Constantin Petcou , in which residents are involved in self-government projects in their neighborhood. The AAA has been awarded numerous prizes.

Petrescu has been working with Alejandra Riera since 2001 . They exhibited together at Documenta11 in Kassel in 2002 .
