Dolf Mohr (* around 1815 ; † March 4, 1851 in Dortmund ), bourgeois Adolf Mohr , was a robber from the area south of Dortmund.

Life

Dolf Mohr was a carter from the Höchst district, which today belongs to Dortmund . During the period of bad harvests from 1842 to 1846, Mohr first came into conflict with the law in 1845 when he allegedly stole a sack of potatoes. Mohr was charged, but had to be acquitted because a neighbor had given him an alibi . Dolf Mohr had committed various break-ins and assaults up to 1851. Mohr is said to have committed many of the deeds not for his own benefit, but to help his poor neighbors. In this context, Dolf Mohr is said to have robbed tax collectors and cattle dealers, among other things. Therefore he was later called the "Robin Hood of the Most High".

By 1849 a band of robbers had formed around Mohr. For this reason, among other things, the Dortmund authorities requested the Prussian military. However, this was refused by higher-level bodies. In March 1850, Dolf Mohr was arrested and charged with an accomplice after a burglary. Mohr managed to escape from prison in July 1850. On November 4, 1850, a reward of 10 thalers was offered for the capture of Dolf Mohr. This corresponded to the monthly wage of a worker at the time. Nevertheless, Mohr could not be caught until 1851.

death

On March 4, 1851, while attempting to evade arrest , Dolf Mohr was shot in the back and killed by the gendarme Mönkebüscher.
