Dollywood is an amusement park in the American town of Pigeon Forge in the state of Tennessee . It was visited by around 2.4 million people annually until it was not reopened due to the corona pandemic.

history

After the park was founded as Rebel Railroad in 1961 , it underwent a number of name changes before it was given its current name in 1986 with Dollywood . It was named after the new co-owner, the singer Dolly Parton .

Attractions and park construction

Dollywood is divided into ten different subject areas. Highlights include the Thunderhead wooden roller coaster from the manufacturer Great Coasters International (2004) and the Mystery Mine steel roller coaster from the German company Gerstlauer Amusement Rides (2007). In 2014, the park opened a family roller coaster with two kills with the Fire Chaser Express. The track is 740 meters long and 24 meters high. The first wooden roller coaster with a catapult launch has been in Dollywood since 2016. It's called the Lightning Rod and was built by Rocky Mountain Construction .

Awards

  • In 2010 the park received the Applause Award , the biennial award for the best park in the world.
  • At the Golden Ticket Awards, Dollywood received several awards in various categories, for example in 2012 as “Friendliest Park” and Wild Eagle as “Best New Ride”.
