Dolmen de la Croisonnière

The Dolmen de la Croisonnière (also called La Croissannière or La Pierre Levée (Nanteuil)) is located behind the houses of the "Rue du Dolmen" on a hill in the southeast of the village of Nanteuil , near Saint-Maixente-l'Ecole in the Deux-Sèvres department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The remains of the Dolmen de la Croisonnière can be found a few hundred meters from the road. Little more has been preserved than the approximately 4.5 x 3.5 m capstone and a pile of stones that line the property line of the houses.

This type of dolmen is widespread in southern France instead of the large and more complex northern dolmens. The weathered limestone is typical of Occitan France.
