Dolmen de la Pierre-Alot

The Dolmen de la Pierre-Alot (probably from pierre à l'eau - water stone; also called La Pierre Halot) is located in the Lardigny forest in the hamlet of Mauvaignant Lardigny west of Vitry-lès-Nogent , about five kilometers south of Nogent in the Haute department -Marne , in France . The name came about because hollows formed (or deepened) on the horizontal surface of the capstone, in which rainwater remains. In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The remainder of the dolmen that has been preserved consists of two lateral supporting stones, an end stone and a cap stone lying horizontally in situ , protruding on all sides (probably naturally broken off on one side), weighing about 9 tons and measuring about 3.2 × 3.0 meters . The bearing stones are about 2.5 meters long. The chamber is open to the south and measures approximately 2.0 × 1.0 meters and is approximately 1.2 meters high at the entrance.

Tradition speaks of a warrior buried there. The dolmen has been a monument historique since 1889 . Nearby is the similarly constructed dolmen La Pierre Tournante near Nogent.
