Dolores (song)

Dolores is a song composed by Frank Loesser in 1941 with lyrics by Louis Alter . In the version played by Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra with Frank Sinatra as the singer, the song became a number one success in the American charts. The group The Pied Pipers acted as a background choir. For Sinatra, the song became his second number one hit. It was first presented in the musical film Las Vegas Nights , performed in Spanish by the Mexican Trio as well as Bert Wheeler and Tommy Dorsey & Band. It was nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Song” category .

The song is about the singer's love for a woman named Dolores.

The song has been covered several times, including by Merry Macs with Bing Crosby . Tom Lord also lists in the field of jazz , u. a. the recordings of Bob Chester , Chick Bullock , Harry James , Stan Brenders , Teddy Weatherford , Ike Quebec and Ziggy Elman .

The Loesser title should not be confused with the composition of the same name by Wayne Shorter .
