Louis dude
Louis Alter (born June 18, 1902 in Haverhill , Massachusetts , † November 5, 1980 in New York City , New York ) was an American songwriter and composer of film music who was nominated twice for the Oscar for best song.
Life
Alter began playing music for silent films in cinemas as a pianist at the age of thirteen in 1915 and later studied at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music . In the 1920s he worked alongside Irène Bordoni in numerous vaudeville shows and toured the United States and abroad with Nora Bayes between 1924 and her death in 1928.
He then began his career as a songwriter and composer of film music in the Hollywood film industry in 1929 with the short film Ben Pollack and His Park Central Orchestra for which he wrote the song "My Kinda Love" for the orchestra of band leader Ben Pollack .
At the Oscar ceremony in 1937 age was together with lyricist Sidney D. Mitchell for the first time for the Oscar for best song nominations, specifically for " A Melody from the Sky " from the film drama battle in the mountains (The Trail of the Lonesome Pine, 1936 ) directed by Henry Hathaway with Fred MacMurray , Sylvia Sidney and Henry Fonda in the lead roles.
He received his second Oscar nomination for best song in 1942 with Frank Loesser for the song " Dolores " from the music film Las Vegas Nights (1941) by Ralph Murphy with the main actors Constance Moore , Bert Wheeler and Phil Regan .
Alter wrote songs such as " Dolores " or "Come Up and See Me Sometime", which have been played in sixty films, but also in television shows by Perry Como , Dean Martin , David Frost and Johnny Carson . Alter, whose daughter Alison Alter starred as an actress in the 1969 short film Hang Up by Joseph Marzano , was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975.
