A Melody from the Sky is a song from the soundtrack of the film Battle in the mountains ( The Trail of the Lonesome Pine ).

Origin background

The song was composed by Louis Alter and appeared as part of the soundtrack in 1937. The lyrics of the song were written by Sidney D. Mitchell . In 1937 there was a nomination for an Oscar in the "Best Song" category . It was sung by Fuzzy Knight in the film.

Cover versions

Versions of the piece with vocals or instrumental have been published by numerous artists, such as Cliff Edwards , Bob Crosby and his Orchestra, Mezz Mezzrow , Bunny Berigan , Flip Phillips , Woody Herman , Scott Robinson and Frances Langford .

The song was also released in Europe under the title “A melody goes through the blue night”. The Theo Heldt Orchestra recorded it anonymously at Kalliope in 1936 as the “Great Jazz Orchestra with Refraingesang”. The singer was Heinz Larsen. The busy German chorus singer Paul Dorn hid behind this pseudonym .
