Frances Langford
Frances Newbern Langford (born April 4, 1913 in Lakeland , Florida , † July 11, 2005 Jensen Beach , Florida) was an American singer and actress .
She started her career as an opera singer. Due to an operation on her neck, she then switched to popular music. Frances Langford sang on the radio since the 1930s and appeared in feature films from 1936. As the actual singer, she mainly played in musicals , but mostly only in small roles. In 1941 she began working with Bob Hope on his radio show, which lasted until the late 1980s. On the radio, she also worked with Don Ameche on The Bickersons, which was also released on record. Although she was never the major star , she sang many of the great classics, such as You are My Lucky Star and Broadway Rhythm in the musical Broadway Melody of 1936 or Hooray for Hollywood .
Until her death she still performed occasionally in the nightclub of her own large beach motel "Frances Langford Outrigger Resort" in Jensen Beach , Florida . She gave her last regular concert in 1966 for the troops in Vietnam .
Her first husband (1934–1955) was the actor Jon Hall , her father-in-law was the actor Felix Locher .
