Jensen Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Martin County in the US state of Florida with 11,707 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Jensen Beach is on the Indian River (part of the Intracoastal Waterway ) and St. Lucie River, and is bordered to the south by the towns of Stuart and Sewall's Point . The CDP is affected by US Highway 1 and crossed by the tracks of the Florida East Coast Railway and is located about 160 km north of Miami .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 11,707 inhabitants were distributed over 6,499 households. The population density was 616.2 inh / km². 94.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.5% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 0.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 4.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 39.9% of all households lived in 20.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 57.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.10 people and the average family size was 2.67 people.

18.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 16.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 33.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 50 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 41,663, with 12.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.41% of the population, 3.08% spoke Spanish and 2.51% had another mother tongue.

Attractions

The Mount Elizabeth Archeological Site , the Stuart Welcome Arch, and the Tuckahoe are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
