Hobe Sound is a census-designated place (CDP) in Martin County in the US state of Florida with 11,521 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Hobe Sound is about 10 km south of Stuart and about 140 km north of Miami . The CDP is crossed by US Highway 1 , Florida State Road A1A and the tracks of the Florida East Coast Railway .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 11,521 inhabitants were distributed over 7,580 households. The population density was 817.1 inh / km². 89.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.7% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 5.2% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 18.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 45.7% of all households. 59.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.10 people and the average family size was 2.67 people.

16.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 14.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 38.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 54 years. 48.8% of the population were male and 51.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 42,706, with 12.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.57% of the population, 3.53% spoke Spanish and 2.90% had another mother tongue.

The Olympia School and the Trapper Nelson Zoo Historic District are in the National Register of Historic Places listed.
