Domain Blumenrod

The Blumenrod domain is a listed former state domain and landmark in the Blumenrod district of Limburg an der Lahn .

history

A farm of Blumenrod is mentioned for the first time on November 24, 1365 in the will of the Limburg lay judge Rule Bonthe as "Blumenrodde", which means something like "cleared land". The construction can only be limited to the period between the 11th and 14th centuries. In the possession of the von Hohenfeld family , the estate was either laid down in 1720 or destroyed by fire. It is estimated that around 1776 under Kurtrier the Hofgut was rebuilt, the structure of which has been preserved in the buildings that still exist today.

Over the years, the property was expanded several times. In 1910 the airship LZ 5 made an emergency landing on the grounds of Hofgut Blumenrod. In 1935 the Wehrmacht appropriated the estate from the descendants of Freiherr von Schütz , had another building and a field airfield built. After the end of the Second World War, the estate became a state domain with agricultural production in 1946 and became the property of the State of Hesse in 1963, which in turn leased it privately.

The city of Limburg needed parts of the property for the further development of the Blumenrod settlement area, which is why it acquired the domain from the State of Hesse in 1995. With the last harvest in 1998 the farm ended. In 2001, the Free Evangelical Community of Limburg finally acquired the Blumenrod domain and began renovating and expanding it in 2002. Church and conference rooms as well as a community center were created. In 2006 the Domain Blumenrod Foundation was set up on the initiative of the municipality and the city of Limburg . In addition to the current public use as a café, further planning also envisages the creation of a care facility under monument conservation aspects.

architecture

The well-preserved main house, made of quarry stone and half-timbering, is flanked by two wings facing north, giving the impression of a small castle. The facade looks rather simple. There are also other preserved buildings of various sizes, such as the so-called “tenant house” and stables. New buildings complement the building ensemble.

today

Today the Blumenrod domain is administered by the Blumenrod Domain Foundation. The foundation has set itself the goal of maintaining, promoting and expanding the character of the Blumenrod domain and making it available to the citizens of Blumenrod, the city of Limburg and the surrounding areas. Today all buildings have been restored and renovated according to the requirements of the monument protection. In the left part of the building are the rooms of the Free Evangelical Congregation Limburg (FeG Limburg), in the old tenant house a day care facility for senior citizens has moved. In the right part of the building there is a day-care center and the “Café Denk'mal”, a café for all age groups, which creates cultural and cross-generational offers. In the middle part of the building complex are the event location "Bürgersaal", "Praxis Otten GmbH" and some medical practices.
