The listed building at Domackerstraße 54 is located in Quadrath-Ichendorf , one of the 15 districts of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district . The house is also called the Cardinal Frings House .

history

The Beissel von Gymnich family provided around 8,000 Reichsmarks in 1889 to purchase land and build a hospital. The foundation stone for today's Cardinal Frings House was thus laid. From 1890 to 1891 the property was built as a monastery (St. Joseph's House) and the parish gave the sisters of the Order of St. Vincent transferred by Paul . It also served as a kindergarten and orphanage. Thanks to a foundation from the von Oppenheim family, an extension was added in 1919. In 1921 the Vincentians moved out and were replaced by Franciscan sisters . The Franciscan Sisters of the Holy Family ran the house until 1968. Then it was run as a retirement home by secular forces until 1978. Finally, until 2005 it served as accommodation for the Katholisches Bildungswerk Rhein-Erft.

Todays use

It still belongs to the parish of St. Laurentius and is the seat of the Catholic school department of the Rhein-Erft district.

architecture

The Kardinal-Frings-Haus is a two-story brick building from the end of the 19th century. In 1919 it was expanded to include a representative two-storey plastered wing at the rear. A flat roofed risalit emphasizes the side of the brick building facing the street . The arched entrance is located on the ground floor. A figure of the Mother of God can be seen in a niche in the gable. The arched windows have frames made of yellow brick material and stone window sills. The younger, plastered wing has a representative design with a gabled central risalit facing the garden. A park-like garden adjoins the house.
