Domingo Quiñones

Domingo Quiñones (born August 9, 1963 in Perth Amboy , New Jersey ) is a salsa musician, producer and actor from Puerto Rico .

Career

Domingo Quiñones was born in New Jersey and moved back to Ceiba, Puerto Rico with his family in 1967. In 1977 Domingo Quiñones returned to the United States in New York City and played in the group Conjunto Nativo. Other engagements were bands like Rafael de Jesús & Orquesta with José Alberto "El Canario", as well as the Conjunto Clásico with Johnny Rodriguez. In 1985 Domingo Quiñones replaced Roberto Lugo in Luis "Perico" Ortiz's group and recorded four albums, including "La vida en broma" (1985), "In Tradition" (1986) and "Perico" (1987). He then sang for a while with Louie Ramirez and Roberto Roena . 1990 began his solo career with the record label RMM and the release of the album "Domingo es mi nombre". After havingTito Puente released his 100th album, his second album Pintando Lunas was released in 1992, which included a duet with Tony Vega on the song "Dos Amigos" and a salsa version of the song "Crazy for You" and showed his great versatility. In 1996 he reached number one on the Latin Tropical Airplay Charts with "Tú Como Estas" from the album "Mi Meta". The National Foundation for Popular Culture of Puerto Rico recognized the album "Se necesita un milagro" with song titles such as "Mi Negrita Me Espera" from 1997 as one of the most influential pieces in salsa. The song "No Voy a Dejarte Voy" came in at number two on the Latin Tropical Airplay Charts. In 1998 Domingo Quiñones played in the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar together with Olga Tañón, Michael Stuart and Tito Auger from the group Fiel à la Vega. In the piece ¿Quien Mato a Héctor Lavoe? He played the role of the singer Héctor Lavoe and sang "La Voz de Siempre". He received good reviews from the New York Times for it. He processed his own compositions in Poeta y Guerrero. In the film Héroes de Otra Patria about the Vietnam War and the commitment of Puerto Rican soldiers, he played the role of Sergeant Miller. It won a prize at the Chilean Festival de Cine de Viña del Mar, and in 1999 the film was Puerto Rico's official entry in the Foreign Film category. In the 2007 film El Cantante, he played the role of a music promoter in San Juan alongside Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony .
