biography

His first big break came at the age of 16. In 2001 he won the German championship with the regional “Little League” - “Senior League” selection and thus qualified for the European championship in the same year, where he was runner-up in this class.

The following year, Höpfner was again German Little League champion as a shortstop (this time in the Big League class), won the European Championship with Team Germany and qualified as the first German selection in the history of the Little League as a representative of Europe for the Little League Big League World Series in Easley, SC, USA.

Even if it was only enough to win four games with Team Europe, it was still a successful tournament for Höpfner. Höpfner was named the most valuable player in Team Europe (European MVP 2002).

In the following years, his appearances in the 1st Bundesliga increased steadily until he played his first full season in the first German Bundesliga in 2005 and at the same time made it to the second German Bundesliga with the second guard of the Mannheim Tornados.
