The Church of Our Lady of the Snow (Polish: Kościół Matki Boskiej Śnieżnej ), the Church on the Gródek (Polish: Kościół na Gródku ), or the Dominican Church (Polish: Kościół Dominikanek ) in Krakow is a Catholic church at ul. Mikołajska 21, in the eastern part of Kraków's old town in the Gródek district . It was located directly on the city wall before it was removed. The butcher's gate was integrated into the monastery building, making it one of the few remaining fragments of the Kraków city wall.

history

inner space

The church and the monastery were founded by Anna Branicka as a vote for the victorious battle against the Ottoman Empire near Chocim , in which her son Stanisław Lubomirski participated, among others . The church was built against the city wall, with the butcher 's gate, also called Gródek gate, being integrated into the monastery building. It is located on the ruins of Vogts Albert's castle , which was razed in 1312. However, the church was already badly damaged during the Swedish Flood in the middle of the 17th century, but was quickly restored afterwards.
