Dominican Monastery of St. Nicolai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former Dominican monastery of St. Nicolai is located in the Swiss city of Chur on Nikolaigasse between Fontanapark in the north and Kornplatz in the south.

The monastery was moved to its present location in 1288. When the Reformation was introduced in Chur, Heinrich Bullinger , Johannes Comander and Johann Travers converted the monastery into a Latin school in 1539. After the turmoil in Graubünden in 1658, it was finally repealed. Today a primary school, rooms of the commercial vocational school, the city police and the marriage room of the registry office are housed in it.
