Dominique Marchal

Dominique Marchal (* 1944 in Brussels ) is an author, journalist, mountaineer, Buddhist nun and was the first professional pilot in Switzerland to receive an instrument flight license .

Dominique was born in Brussels in 1944. In 1966 she became the first woman in Switzerland to obtain a license. In the Biafra War , she flew weapons for the rebels. Furthermore, she flew as a pilot for wealthy private clients business aircraft of Learjet and as a charter pilot the Boeing 737 . After a Mount Everest expedition in 1986, during which she did not reach the summit but dealt a lot with Buddhism, she became a journalist. As a journalist, she met the Dalai Lama in Paris in 1989 . In 1995 she moved to Nepal and ran a hospital there. In 2008 she officially became a Buddhist nun.

She was married three times and got divorced three times. She is the mother of two sons and now lives in Kathmandu .
