Don Lang
Don Lang , née Gordon Langhorn , ( January 19, 1925 in Halifax , England - August 3, 1992 in London ) was an English jazz trombonist and rock 'n' roll singer. As the band leader of the group Don Lang & his Frantic Five , he celebrated his greatest success with cover versions in England in the late 1950s.
biography
The trained electrician made his first professional appearance in 1947 on the Isle of Man . Lang's role models included the American jazz trombonists Jack Teagarden and Bill Harris . At first he worked as a jazz trombonist, a. a. with Vic Lewis and Ken Mackintosh . His commercial success only began as a singer of rock and roll titles. He and his band, founded in 1953, were the house band of the first rock'n'roll show on the BBC called Six-Five Special , for which he also recorded the theme song. Lang was also successful as a skiffle musician. In 1958, his cover version of the song Witch Doctor by David Seville reached number 5 on the British singles chart . On the Beatles' White Album , he played the trombone in Revolution 1 .
In the 1970s and 1980s he worked solo as a cabaret artist. Don Lang ended his stage career in the late 1980s. Don Lang is the father of bassist Brad Lang. He died in 1992 at the age of 67 after suffering from cancer for a long time. He left two children and a wife.
