Donald Bren

Donald Bren (born May 11, 1932 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American entrepreneur and investor .

Life

His father was the naval officer and film producer Milton Bren and his mother Marion (née Newbert). His parents separated in 1948. Bren studied economics at the University of Washington in Seattle. Upon graduation, he served three years in the United States Marine Corps .

With a loan, he built his first house in Newport Beach (Southern California) in 1958 . Bren started a real estate company and built other homes in Orange County . Together with two partners, he founded the project development company Mission Viejo Company (MVC) in 1963 and acquired 10,000 acres in Mission Viejo . In 1967 he sold his shares.

He sold his own company in 1970 for US $ 34 million and bought it back after the 1972 recession for US $ 22 million. In 1977 Bren and a group of investors acquired the real estate company Irvine Company . Bren was the largest owner, majority owner from 1983 and sole owner from 1996.

Bren is married and has seven children. Specifically, he makes donations to various educational institutions and universities in the United States. He lives with his family in Newport Beach , California.

He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2007 .
