Donald G. Fink

Donald Glen Fink (born November 8, 1911 in Englewood, New Jersey ; † May 3, 1996 ) was an American electrical engineer, a pioneer in the development of radio navigation and television standards, Vice President for Research at Philco, President of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE), General Manager of the IEEE, and an author of many important publications in electrical engineering.

From 1929 he studied at MIT, earned his Bachelor of Science in 1933 and spent a year as a research assistant in the MIT departments of geology and electrical engineering.

From 1934 to 1941 he worked as an editor for Electronics magazine . During the Second World War, he worked at MIT's Radiation Laboratory and installed LORAN stations. 1946–1952 he was editor-in-chief at Electronics .

He joined Philco in 1952 , became Vice President of Research in 1960 and, following the merger with Ford, Director of Philco-Ford Scientific Laboratories in 1962 .

He was a member of the IRE board of directors , 1956/57 he was editor-in-chief of the Proceedings of the IRE , from 1958 president of the IRE and 1963–74 director of the successor organization IEEE.
