Donati is an impact crater on the front of the Moon , east of Mare Nubium , northeast of Faye crater, and southwest of Airy . The crater is heavily eroded and has a central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian astronomer Giambattista Donati .
