The Günzburg Danube Bridge is a new construction of an existing but damaged old bridge and spans the Danube and its foreland areas north of Günzburg in Swabia . As part of the bypass, it crosses federal highway 16 with two lanes and was built between 2010 and 2011.

Reasons for the demolition of the old Danube bridge

The old truss bridge from 1948 was very damaged due to its age and the increasing volume of traffic and therefore had a reduced load-bearing capacity.

particularities

The engineers Jürgen Schmidt and Peter Radl from SSF Ingenieure München won the 2013 German Steel Construction Engineering Award in the bridge construction category for the Günzburg Danube Bridge. According to their design, a 110 m long bridge structure was built, which consists of a tied arch bridge with a span of 83 m and an edge bridge on both sides with a 10.50 m span.

lighting

The bridge is illuminated with energy-efficient LED technology; 16 spotlights are able to create different light scenarios. This is done using nine different colors, each of which lights up for five minutes and changes gently to the next. With this lighting, the client wanted to turn the central northern entrance to the city into a point of identification with the help of artistically designed lighting.
