Danube trajectory Gombos – Erdőd

The Danube route Gombos – Erdőd was a railway ferry in the south of the former Kingdom of Hungary . From 1872 the Alföld-Fiumaner Railway crossed the Danube in a river arch on a trajectory .

Pictures of this trajectory show that the pontoons , the landing bridges and the guide ropes are in full agreement with the trajectory devices of the Rheinische Eisenbahn. Here, too, the intermediate wagons known from the Rhine were used in order not to burden the pontoons with the weight of the locomotives. The two pontoons here were named "Duna" and "Drava".
After the trajectory from Rheinhausen to Hochfeld was discontinued , the Rheinische Eisenbahngesellschaft offered equipment from this trajectory for sale in 1877. For the rail transport to the Danube, the 63 meter long pontoons must have been completely dismantled.

In 1910 a six-arch steel bridge was completed, which has since replaced the trajectory. Today the Danube river forms the border between the in Serbia here Vojvodina lying Bogojevo , the former Gombos on the east side, and in eastern Croatia near Vukovar located Erdut (Erdőd). So it was in the southwest of Bács-Bodrog County (see map).
