Doop (ndl. For baptism) was a music project from the Netherlands . It was founded in 1989 by the two house producers Ferry Ridderhof (born August 24, 1963 in Amsterdam) and Peter Garnefski (born May 18, 1964 in Rotterdam) in The Hague .

Act

Ridderhof and Garnefski met while studying at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. From 1992 onwards the first releases came under different names such as Booby Trax, Wax Attack, Sugar 'N' Spice and Vicious Delicious.

The biggest hit of her career managed the duo in 1994 as Doop with the same title, a techno - / house track that on the sample of Charleston put on from the 1920s. The single reached number 1 in the UK charts in March 1994 and stayed there for three weeks. Doop was also successful in the USA . There the track became a club hit and climbed to number 2 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music / Club Play charts. Today the genre of the song is often referred to as electroswing .

The successor single Huckleberry Jam tried to continue the success on the same principle with a harmonica sample in the country blues style, but the piece flopped. The project lived on for some time in the Netherlands, but Doop remained the only success internationally .

In the years that followed, Ferry & Garnefski continued to publish under various names such as Hocus Pocus and Sponk. Since 1998 they have formed the Peplab quartet with Edward Boellaard and Hans Weekhout .
