The double Schotstek is a knot for connecting two ropes of different thickness.
application
The double schotstek connects a thick or stiff rope or a hawser with a thin flexible rope or line. The knot strength is strongly dependent on the difference in thickness and the type and surface of the rope.
Knot
A bay is laid with the hawser . With the thin rope you first tie a simple sheet stake and then drive the loose end around the cable bay one more time and push the end through again.
Alternatives
- The simple Schotstek is suitable for connecting less different ropes or ropes of equal thickness .
- For connecting two hawsers or cables, the stiffer is Carrick Bend .
- Twisted ropes are spliced .
Modifications
- One turn less results in the simple Schotstek .
- A few more turns results in the Zeisingstek .
