Dora Pavel

Dora Pavel (born June 29, 1946 in Deva ) is a Romanian writer .

Life

She studied Romanian Philology at the Babes Bolyai University in Cluj . Dora Pavel lives in Cluj-Napoca , where she works as a journalist and editor for a local radio station. She is currently writing her fourth novel. In 1984 she made her debut with the volume of poetry Ante Scriptum followed by several volumes of poetry. Fifteen years later, her first volume of prose, Întoarce-te Esthera (“Esther, come back”), came out with her literary breakthrough with the novel Agata murind (“Agata dies”), which was published in 2003 by Dacia. The novel received the Prize of the Writers' Union, the most important literary award in Romania, has been well received and has so far had two editions (Dacia Publishing, 2003; Polirom Publishing, 2004). In 2006 her third novel was published by Polirom, under the title Captivul ("The Prisoner").
