Dora del Hoyo

Dora del Hoyo (* 11. January 1914 in Boca de Huérgano, Leon , Spain ; † 10. January 2004 in Rome ) was the first Auxiliarnumerarierin of Opus Dei .

From 1939 Dora del Hoyo worked in Madrid as a household helper for various families. She met Josemaría Escrivá and his lay community in 1944 when she was working in the Opus Dei dormitory in La Moncloa as an employee in the economic administration. In March 1946, she entered Opus Dei in Bilbao - the first woman who wanted to mainly take care of the household chores of the Opus Dei houses. At the request of Josemaría Escrivá, she lived in Rome from December 1946 at the institute's headquarters. She devoted herself in particular to the domestic education of women who joined Opus Dei as auxiliary numerarians. Dora del Hoyo also worked for Opus Dei in France, Ireland and England. She was buried in the crypt of the prelature church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome, which is also the burial church of St. Josemaria Escrivas.

On June 18, 2012, Javier Echevarría , prelate of Opus Dei, opened the process of beatification of Dora del Hoyo at the level of the personal prelature in Rome .
