Gabriele C. Klug (born June 11, 1955 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and lawyer. From 1994 to 2000 she was (adjunct) mayor of Rüsselsheim , from 2005 to 2010 alderman and treasurer of Wesel and from 2010 to 2018 city treasurer of Cologne .

Life

Klug studied at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and after her second state examination worked as a lawyer specializing in labor and constitutional law. Between 1986 and 1994 she first worked in the State Chancellery and the Landtag Chancellery of the State of Hessen. She later headed the office of the Hessian Minister for Youth, Family and Health. From 1994 to 2000, Klug was the full-time mayor of Rüsselsheim . From 2000 she worked as a consultant and from 2000 to 2005 as a lawyer. In the 16th electoral term of the Hessian state parliament she was a deputy non-judicial member of the State Court of Hesse . From 2005 to 2010 she was alderman and treasurer of the city of Wesel .

On October 7, 2010, Gabriele C. Klug was elected city treasurer of the City of Cologne , who took office on December 8, 2010 (see Cologne City Administration ). There she headed Department II with the areas of finance, controlling, organization and law as well as building management. Her term of office ended on December 7, 2018. In her functions, she held supervisory board and partner activities in the areas of ports and logistics, hospitals, public utilities and the housing industry. From September 2012 to September 2017 she was a member of the Supervisory Board of Portigon AG (legal successor of WestLB). Klug has specialized in sustainable public finances and is one of the initiators of the 1st Cologne Symposium "Integrated Infrastructure and Financial Planning in Times of Urban Transformation" (2017) and the 2nd Cologne Symposium "Equal Living Conditions in Times of Urban Transformation" (2018). The subject of the series of events are integrated paths to material sustainability and resilience of cities with their participation in the face of the challenges posed by climate change, demographics and other global risks with a local impact. The focus is on urban development with the goal of sustainable municipal finances - on the way to "green zero".

Since December 2018, Klug has been deputy chairwoman and managing director of the lobby organization Grüner Wirtschaftsdialog e. V.

Smart is a Rotarian .

Gabriele C. Klug volunteers at Transparency International Deutschland eV, of which she was a member of the board until January 2019, most recently as deputy chairwoman. She is a member of the German Association of Women Lawyers and the European Women Lawyers' Association . She was also CEO of GrünKom from 2011 to spring 2019. Klug is a member of the jury for the award of the “Science Award Bureaucracy”. Since January 2020 she has been an associate member of the German Society Club of Rome .
