The Dorand AR.2 was a French military plane , which in the First World War was used.

development

The AR.2 was created in 1917 together with the AR.1 and should replace the various outdated Farman types as reconnaissance aircraft. In contrast to the AR.1, it received a fully clad in-line engine and wing cooler, whereby the rounded bow fairing thus created proved to be very aerodynamic. Both Renault (200 hp) and Lorraine-Dietrich (185 and 240 hp) were used as engines during the series . Exact production figures are unknown, but the American Expeditionary Force alone purchased 120 machines. Because of the low flight performance, the type was withdrawn from the front lines in 1918.
