Field stone church Rosenthal

The village church Berlin-Rosenthal is at Hauptstraße 149 in the Berlin district of Rosenthal . It was built around 1250 and is the oldest surviving building in the district.

Building history

Around 1350 the inhabitants built a hall church made of field stone masonry . The stones that hinder plowing in the fields have been carefully squared. This is a characteristic of the late Romanesque style , as is the clogged arched portal that can still be seen on the south side.

In 1705 one was choir in Baroque added design, just a verbretterter roof tower with cross and crown. A transept with an apse and flanking stair towers made of yellow bricks in historical-Romanesque design replaced this choir in 1888. Finally, in 1902/1903 the Rosenthal church received an elaborate tower extension . Its lower part is made of white limestone and is reminiscent of an excessively wide west building . The upper part above the recessed shoulders is made of red brick in Gothic shapes. In 1902 the church also received an organ from the Dinse brothers . After the end of the Second World War , the parish had extensive damage repaired on the tower that had been shot up; it now has a simpler roof - more appropriate to the overall structure. New bells were purchased instead of those confiscated at the time. The interior was restored in the 1960s. The stained glass windows were replaced with white glass. The painting, which was still partially in place, was painted over, and the church was given a more sober interior. The interior became lighter when the galleries to the right and left of the vestibule were removed. The organ from the renovation period has been preserved.

After the political change, the enormous increase in heavy traffic put more strain on the main road next to the church. For this reason, the foundation soon had to be laboriously stabilized, the plastered cracks in the south wall can still be seen. Extensive renovation work on the uninviting interior has been completed. Due to a lack of financial resources, however, not everything has been repaired (as of 2010).
