The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church of Göllnitz is located in the municipality of Göllnitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Mehna-Dobitschen in the church district Altenburger Land of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The Göllnitz church goes back to the 13th century. In the chronicle of the parish, pastors in Göllnitz have been named since 1528 .

On August 16, 1557, a major fire destroyed four estates, the rectory and the church tower, and even the bells melted. The repair of the tower was already completed in 1557. A year engraved on the front door of the church confirms the date and the construction work. The Christians of Göllnitz received the bells as a gift from the Schwanditz chapel .

In 1660 the tower was renewed. In 1668 the entire church was renovated. The restoration was financed by donations from landowners, farmers and residents. On May 26, 1708, the festival of Pentecost , lightning struck the tower and caused considerable damage. In 1735 new galleries were built . The interior and exterior of the church were redesigned from 1795 onwards. In 1797 the painters could begin their work. This gave the church its present form.

In 2013, the church tower was renovated thanks to many donations.
