history

Statue of the Archangel Michael on the church

The chapel standing on the striking Kirchberg mountain spur steeply above the Gerstenbergbachtal can be seen from afar.

The small Slavic settlement was first mentioned in documents in 1227. The Gerstenberg family shaped the settlement economically and politically until 1450. In place of the Slavic castle , a chapel was built on the safe hill in 1100 . It was dedicated to Saint Michael . In 1472 this chapel was enlarged. After the Reformation it was rededicated as an Evangelical Lutheran Church.

architecture

The single-nave hall church with a three-eight choir is brightly plastered. The choir, in which three high arcade windows open, is supported on the outside by five strikingly strong buttresses made of rough field stones. A slate-clad roof turret sits on the gable roof with an octagonal floor plan, which is crowned by a stepped pointed hood .

Silver treasure

In 1843 a silver treasure with 800 coins from the 12th century was found underground during excavations .
