The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church of Hötzelsroda stands in the core of the village of Hötzelsroda , which is now a district of the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .

history

The village church was built in 1716 from yellow sandstone blocks and rubble stones. The church caught fire in 1792, probably as a result of a lightning strike, and the roof structure caught fire and some of it had to be replaced. During a repair in the 1920s, charred beams were found and replaced.

After the political changes of a basic exemplary restoration associated performed with a dry rot remediation . In 1999 the church tower was renovated and the roof re-covered. A renovation of the interior is planned for 2016, among other things the dilapidated organ is to be expanded and the sanctuary enlarged.

Furnishing

Inside the church is a simple building with an almost all-round gallery , a wooden pulpit from the time it was built and an old baptismal font made of sandstone. The organ is located above the chancel . The roof turret on the west side defines the townscape .

organ

The organ built into the church by the Ratzmann family from Ohrdruf in 1821 is one of the oldest surviving organs of the family. Shortly after its construction, it was moved from the gallery above the church entrance to the opposite west side in order to create more space in the interior of the church. Since then it has stood in front of the church windows above the chancel, narrowing and darkening the interior. In 1925 it was last extensively repaired and an electric fan was added. The prospect pipes were removed and in 1934 the instrument was repainted.

In 1996 the instrument, which was in dire need of repair, was taken out of service and replaced by an electronic organ. Since then, the parish has been looking for people who want to transport the organ away, renovate it and put it to a new use. On July 4, 2016, the move began, combined with a comprehensive restoration of the Ratzmann organ in the Pessin village church .
