The Protestant village church Herzberg (Mark) is a late Gothic stone church in Herzberg (Mark) in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish of Herzberg in the parish of the Upper Havelland Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and is an open church .

History and architecture

The village church consists of the nave and the somewhat narrower west tower in field stone masonry. Except for the round window in the east wall, the windows were changed at the beginning of the 18th century. The ogival south portal is walled up; the building is accessed through a west portal with a steep pointed arch. A restoration was carried out around 1980. The upper part of the tower is provided with two stepped gables with decoration in brick and coupled sound openings under segmental arches and finished with a transverse gable roof. In the north there is a sacristy made of field and brick.

The ship is spanned by a painted wooden beam ceiling. A horseshoe-shaped gallery from 1833 was later shortened. In the north wall you can see a slit window that was later walled up and painted in medieval colors. Further wall paintings were uncovered during a restoration in the years 1927–1929 and restored again in 1980. They show a remains of a late Gothic Passion cycle and parts of a geometric ribbon from the 16th century.

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is a pulpit altar from the 18th century. It consists of a wooden structure with curved sides and a polygonal pulpit, which is integrated into the rear wall with a gallery. The pulpit is flanked by arched passages; the slightly protruding northern part, decorated with pilasters, provides access to the pulpit stairs. The rear wall of the pulpit is equipped with a basket arched door and volutes on the side . A domed sound cover crowned by an urn, the underside of which was painted by Erich Kistenmacher in 1929 with the dove of the Holy Spirit and a radiant sun, is attached above the pulpit with symbols of the evangelists. The curved wooden altar table, framed by side board baluster barriers, has now moved away from the wall.

A late medieval sacrament niche consists of a niche with a roof-shaped end and iron grating in a flat-arched panel; the inside is lined with planks. Two baptismal angels from the 18th century have been preserved on the east wall and on the north side, one of which shows the original color, the other was later repainted.

The organ from 1899/1900 is the work of Albert Hollenbach from Neuruppin, a student of Friedrich Ladegast . The prospectus in neo-renaissance forms shows three round arches framed by columns with a simple cornice.
