The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church of Mumsdorf is located in the Mumsdorf district of the city of Meuselwitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

Until the Reformation , the faithful from Mumsdorf, which was an exclave of the Wettin office of Altenburg in the Zeitz monastery area , went to the church in Langendorf , which belongs to Zeitz . In 1521, the then Altenburg bailiff , Günther von Bünau, bought the Mumsdorf manor from the Haugwitz family, including all jurisdiction. Günther von Bünau, who was a supporter of the Lutheran doctrine, demanded that the Mumsdorfers no longer go to school and church in Langendorf, but to Meuselwitz in Altenburg . Since then, the Mumsdorfers went to church after Meuselwitz for almost 400 years.

Already at the turn of the century 1900 the believers from Mumsdorf wanted to have their own place of worship in the village . In 1926 the chapel association was founded. In 1926 and 1927 the chapel was built on the site willingly handed over by the community. On February 20, 1927, the first church representation in Mumsdorf was introduced.
