It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Thonhausen in the church district Altenburger Land of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

Bishop Johann von Salhausen arranged for the village church to be built in 1512 from parts of an older church. This church was abandoned due to devastation, looting and plague during the Thirty Years War. It was not until 1667 that the chancel was redesigned and completed with a two-branch pointed gable.

After 1870 the church was designed in a neo-Byzantine style. The ceiling and parts of the window frames still bear witness to this. The church tower was cleaned in 1896. On May 23, 1902, the top of the tower burned down due to lightning. A year later, the church patron donated an iron stove. The corridors and the altar area were newly tiled.

From 1965 the church was abandoned a third time due to structural damage and was used as a warehouse at times. After extensive renovation, it was able to reopen on the 2nd of Advent 2001. It is used as a place of worship from Easter to Christmas.
