Schierau village church
The village church of Schierau in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district is the place of worship.
history
The church was built around 1460 and later received a tower with three Renaissance gables and a four-sided lantern with an onion tip. During the Thirty Years War , in 1636, the church was destroyed and looted. In 1668 the church was rebuilt.
Four valuable grave slabs made of sandstone with figurative representations from the 16th century were embedded in the nave. These are the wife von Wolf from the Winkel , Elisabeth von Schaderitz from Gröbzig , from 1539, her daughter-in-law Katharina von Reppichau from the Altjeßnitz house from 1577 and Katharina's mother Mechthild from the Altjeßnitz house from 1576. The fourth tombstone from 1562 shows a woman with various coats of arms, including that of the Pose family. Today these are located inside the tower.
From the earlier valuable Baroque furnishings, which were lost when it fell into disrepair in the previous century, there are still a few decorative elements, a late Gothic wooden sculpture from the former Baroque altar showing St. Andrew and the font from the late 19th century. Of the three originally existing bells, one is still preserved, probably from the 15th century and having a diameter of 58 cm.
After the restoration of the church in 1907, the roof became increasingly damaged, especially in the 1960s, so that the church could no longer be used from 1974. In the 1980s the roof was cleared and the tower secured. Only since the extensive renovation work from 1999 to 2002 , initiated by the association Kirchturm Schierau eV , can church services and other events take place again, for example at the day of the open monument in the open nave or in the renovated church tower . In the meantime, baptisms and nativity plays are regularly held again.
From the formerly single-nave brick building, only remains and the mighty church tower are left today.
Since 2008, the church tower has also housed a home parlor , through which a large number of domestic and agricultural objects, some of which have been forgotten, can be experienced again. In addition to a pram from the Biedermeier period, a flail , a butter churn and a washboard made of over 100-year-old oak are on display.
